Loco
Weathering
Gallery.

This is the Weathering Gallery, which shows some of my work on various models such as locos, coaches, wagons, etc.

Weathering is a very subjective subject and I'll try and give some information on what has been used on each model, such as transfers, nameplates, etc.

Heljan Class 33, BR Blue.
This is one of the new Heljan class 33's, in BR Blue, numbered 6529 (Pre-TOPS).
I've used Railtec custom transfers on this loco and weathered it as a pretty dirty example.
I've also fitted the loco with a ZIMO MX696KS sound decoder, loaded with a Paul Chetter class 33 sound project. All this through two 3w 40hm speakers wired in series and supplemented with a Gold Cap stay alive.

Heljan class 128 DPU Unit.
This is a Heljan Class 128 DPU unit in BR Blue, number M55995 as it was in the early 1980's
This model has been fitted with a ZIMO MX644D sound decoder, loaded with a Paul Chetter sound project. This is through a 3w bass reflex speaker and supplemented with a Gold Cap stay alive.
The unit was then weathered as an 'in service' unit of the early 1980's.

Dapol class 08, in TTG livery,08915.
This is the Dapol TTG liveried model, finished as 08915 with it's unique markings with custom transfers from Railtec Transfers, I've upgraded the vacuum pipes for something a bit meatier, a DJ Parkins Air Horn instead of the whistle, the coupling guard the correct side of the crossbar at the front, wipers both front and back by Giles, and a Modelu shunters pole on the front step.
Weathered as an 'in service' loco for one of my regular customers.

Dapol 14xx 0-4-2t in BR Lined Green Livery, 1401.
This new Dapol RTR locomotive came as an un-numbered loco so was fitted with FOX Transfers brass number plates, smokebox plate and shed code plate.
I also fitted the loco with a Zimo MX644D sound decoder with a Paul Chetter Activedrive sound project and through a twin speaker with 3D printed enclosure. Helped along with a 17,000uF capacitor.
I've then weathered this as a 'working' example and added some tools and fire irons to the loco.

Heljan Class 37/4, 37429 "Eisteddfod Genedlaethol" in Regional Railways livery.
This Heljan RTR class 37/4, finished as 37429 in the Regional Railways livery. She is fitted with a Zimo MX696KS sound decoder and loaded with a Paul Chetter sound project. This is sent through two 3w 4ohm speakers mounted in the tanks, using the fuel tanks as the spoeaker enclosure and fitting a Bass Reflex Tube through to the inside of the body.
I've also made the tail lights directionally switchable on one function button, and changed the High Intensity light for something a bit more like a high intensity light, and that is also directionally switchable with one button.
Transfers are by Fox and Nameplates by Shawplan.
She has been weathered as she was in a working condition when I used to see her up and down the N. Wales Coast.
I had the pleasure of visiting Simon George's Heaton Lodge layout so took the 37/4 along for a run.
Here is a quick video showing her starting a 31 HEA wagon train slightly uphill. Please excuse the background noise as there was far more important work going on further down the layout.

Heljan class 37/4, number 37412 finished in BR Sector livery.
The model was fitted with a Zimo MX696KS sound decoder with my own bass reflex speaker set up in the fuel tanks.
Railtec transfers were used for the numbering and unusually small sector logos on this loco and Laurie Griffin lamp irons were used for the extra WR style lamp irons which the prototype had during this period.
She was weathered as a work-a-day St Blazey loco as many of them were.

Minerva 8750 Pannier Tank, No 3716 in BR Black livery.
This is a Minerva 8750 Pannier which has had the step, tool box, and other details added from the comprehensive detailing pack within the box. I've added Laurie Griffin Vacuum and Steam Heat pipes to the two buffer beams.
This loco has also been sound fitted through a 3D printed twin speaker enclosure and a large Stay Alive capacitor.
The loco was then weathered as a pretty work worn example and a few little extra details added such as the fire irons, bucket and a spare lamp on the footplate.

Heljan Class 37/4, 37421 "The Kingsman" in Regional Railways Livery.
This Heljan Class 37/4 locomotive has had Fox Transfers added and 'Shawplan' Nameplates.
I have then fitted it with a Zimo MX696KS sound decoder loaded with a Paul Chetter sound project for the 37/4. This project included Directional Markers, Directional and Switchable Tail Lights, Active Braking and all the normal excellent driving features you get with the Zimo. I have made the fuel tanks into a self contained twin speaker chamber using two 3W 4ohm round speakers wired in series and a reflex tube mounted through to the inside of the body, to give excellent tones throughout the sound range.
She was weathered as an 'In Service' example as I used to see along the N. Wales coast when we had the pleasure of them on numerous services till the 170's ousted them.

Dapol Class 08, 08795 in Inter City Livery.
This Dapol Class 08 (Later type) is finished as 08795 in Inter City Livery.
I have fitted this loco with a Zimo MX644D sound decoder which has been loaded with the excellent Paul Chetter sound project. This project has the Active Braking on F2 and Speed Lock on F7. The lighting is a different set up for the later release, and this sound project takes that into account. The sound is through one of my own 2W 8ohm bass reflex speakers and also fitted with a mega Stay Alive capacitor.  I've also beefed up the vac pipes at each end and fitted wipers front and rear. The loco was then weathered into a work worn example.
